First trailer for Jersey Boys

Jersey Boys is a pretty easy sell. A musical about the Four Seasons featuring all their greatest hits? Yea, people are going to come out to see that. It could, however, go horribly wrong as adaptations go if they decide...

First trailer for Annie, starring Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx photo
First trailer for Annie, starring Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx
by Nick Valdez

When I had first heard about the upcoming Annie remake, Jay Z was producing the score and it was being set up as a vehicle for Willow Smith. Now that it has evolved into a starring role for Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx (as Benjamin Stacks), I'm not really sure how to react. The music sounds about right (as the songs are directly translated with a mix of new age flair), Wallis is precocious, and the story has a changed a little bit. But watching Cameron Diaz fail to ham it up really bugs me. It's enough to turn me off the whole thing completely.

Since my mom's the big expert on Annie (the Carol Burnett version is in her Top 3 altogether), I showed her this trailer. Here's what she thought:

[laughs] I need to see it. It looks fun. But why do they have to mess with my movie?

There we go. Annie hits theaters Christmas Day.

Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson returning for Pitch Perfect 2

I highly expected these two to return given how Pitch Perfect's unexpected blow up helped springboard Wilson's career (nabbing her the TV show, Super Fun Night) and Kendrick's single "Cups" made lots of music chart money, but...

Elizabeth Banks to direct Pitch Perfect 2

Pitch Perfect was a splendid surprise back when it released in 2012. It's funny (but not exactly brilliant), has cool women that do cool things, and the music's pretty fly ("Cups" ended being one of 2013's biggest singles). I...

Frozen's "Let It Go" sung in 25 different languages

No, I'm not sick at all of talking about how much I loved Disney's Frozen (put it on all three of my Top X of 2013 lists this year), so of course I'm using this time to gush again. Here we have a video of Idina Menzel's "Let...

Nick's 10 Best Movie Music Moments of 2013 photo
Nick's 10 Best Movie Music Moments of 2013
by Nick Valdez

I'm a sucker for a good soundtrack. Your film could be the worst thing since sliced bread and I'd still love it if the songs were nice. But the best movies take their song choices (or original works) and use them in spectacularly interesting ways. This list is meant to celebrate the films of 2013 that made sweet musical love to our ear drums.

Although I missed out on last year's big musical hit, Inside Llewyn Davis, I'm pretty content with my choices. While I'm sure the film might've knocked a list item or two off the list, this list is definite. I'm entirely confident that I'll defend every single choice until I get bored and do something else.

With that being said, let's get on with the Ten Best Movie Music Moments of 2013.

Frozen's best scene is now available online photo
Frozen's best scene is now available online

At this rate, Frozen is shaping up to be my favorite movie of 2013. If the above clip of Elsa (Idina Menzel) singing the film's stand out single, "Let It Go," doesn't convince you, then I've failed as a person. Although I said in the review that you shouldn't let it be spoiled for you, there's still plenty else to look forward to.

Go see Frozen already.

Jackie Chan prepping autobiographic stage musical photo
Jackie Chan prepping autobiographic stage musical
by Hubert Vigilla

At a press conference today in New York, Jackie Chan mentioned that he is currently preparing a stage musical based on his own life. Adapted from his 1998 autobiography I Am Jackie Chan, the musical would chronicle his childhood experiences in Peking Opera school, his meeting with Bruce Lee, and various aspects of his film career.

The I Am Jackie Chan musical has been kicked about since 2010, though it seems like it's picking up steam now. Chan said that they are still looking for a director for the project.

If I heard right, I believe Chan also said he is working on a sequel to the book I Am Jackie Chan to be called I Am Still Jackie Chan.

Review: The History of Future Folk photo
Review: The History of Future Folk
by Liz Rugg

The History of Future Folk is about the origins of the universe's only alien bluegrass folk duo, and how they discovered and fell in love with Earth's music. It's charming, adventurous, and a ton of fun. I mean when's the last time you saw an Alien Folk Duo Sci-Fi Action Romance Comedy Musical?

As we've seen from the movie's trailer and poster, The History of Future Folk may be one of the most endearing Indie movies we've seen so far this year, but is that enough to make it truly great? Read on to find out!

Review: How Sweet It Is photo
Review: How Sweet It Is
by Hubert Vigilla

One of my favorite comedies is Waiting for Guffman, the first of those Christopher Guest-directed ensemble mockumentaries. It plays well with the goofiness of amateur theater and really embraces the hokey vibe of stage musicals. The reason Waiting for Guffman works so well, I think, is that the material strikes the right note and the right tone, and the performances complement the whole.

How Sweet It Is sometimes gets those notes right, and there's potential there to make the cheesy musical theater set-up worthwhile. So, let me emphasize the positive where I can. At least Joe Piscopo and the rest of the cast do an amicable enough job.

As for the material the cast has to work with, well... that's another story.
