Newest Ex Machina trailer looks fantastic

I'm the kind of jerk that always has to make some sort of "Mr. Roboto" reference every time I see a film with an advanced robot or artificial intelligence, but Ex Machina is the first film in quite a while to make me second ...

FlixList: The Top 10 Movie Robots photo
FlixList: The Top 10 Movie Robots
by Nick Valdez

[This feature originally ran with the release of Pacific Rim two years ago, but with the new robot movie Chappie now hitting theaters, I figured it'd be a fun revisit!]

In honor of Pacific Rim releasing July 12, I, Nick Valdez (Flixist's expert in Besteverology), have, through exhaustive labor and sleepless nights, compiled this list of the top ten movie robots. The rules of the list are simple: one robot per movie franchise, that robot has to be featured in a movie at some point (you'll see what I mean later), and the list is set in stone (which means no going back and changing my mind).

If you disagree with me in any fashion, feel free to discuss your wrongness in the comments below.

Review: Chappie photo

I really do adore Neill Blomkamp, and his first film, District 9, in particular. Although it doesn’t have as many fans as it did back in 2009, I still hold it up as one of the most spectacular debuts in recent years. His sophomore project, Elysium, may have been a huge disappointment, but it speaks volumes about the love for District 9 that most people will still agree that Blomkamp is a true visionary – albeit one blinded at times by his own ambition.

Chappie is his third attempt, and although it never gets close to the brilliance of District 9, it's far more memorable than Elysium

Super Bowl TV spot for Tomorrowland photo
Super Bowl TV spot for Tomorrowland
by Nick Valdez

Through its trailers and how little story we've been given so far, Tomorrowland is shaping up to be one of the more interesting movies this year. Like Pirates of the Caribbean, it's a film adapted from Disney parks, but unlike Pirates, it's being handled by a good team. This Super Bowl spot shows a bit of new footage (though it's missing the cool robots from the Comic-Con stuff) and more Clooney monologue, so it's all good in my book.

Directed by Brad Bird, starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson, Tomorrowland opens May 22nd.

Super Bowl TV spot for Terminator: Genisys photo
Super Bowl TV spot for Terminator: Genisys

This Super Bowl spot for Terminator: Genisys may take a bit of footage from the first (hilariously convoluted) trailer, but there's a bit at the end that I'm most excited for. Also, it's really hard looking at this newest poster touting Arnold's return and not lose my f**king mind. Seriously I'm so hyped for this now, bad spelling and all.

Terminator: Genisys releases July 1st. Expect more Super Bowl spots to come.

Second Chappie trailer has robots and robot accessories

Neill Blomkamp always makes some interesting, if not always entertaining, science fiction, so I'm definitely curious as to where Chappie is headed. It's got ED-209s, Hugh Jackman using his natural accent for once, and Sigour...

Check out this cool Transformers: Age of Extinction Dinobot art

As bad as Transformers: Age of Extinction is, it has a few saving graces. One of them is the cuddly, yet super spiky looking Dinobots. Since the first trailer, the film had been hyping up the appearance of these fan favorite ...

Pacific Rim getting a sequel, more comics and TV show photo
Pacific Rim getting a sequel, more comics and TV show
by Matthew Razak

It seems that Guillermo Del Toro has made everyone's wishes come true and then some. When Pacific Rim failed to be a truly massive hit it was unclear if we'd ever see more, but now according to the above video we'll see a lot more. Del Toro has announced not only a sequel coming in 2017, but also an animated TV show and the continuation of the comic book series. Legendary, the production company behind the films, is evidently pretty confident in the franchise.

I thought Pacific Rim had its flaws, but I'm all about giving it another chance. The action was solid and with a bit better storytelling there could be something really special here. Details are obviously a long way off, but Del Toro already has a script in the works and if this franchise is turning into a universe than we should probably expect some big things.

Super Bowl TV spot for Transformers: Age of Extinction photo
Super Bowl TV spot for Transformers: Age of Extinction
by Nick Valdez

Folks, this might be the Transformers movie we've all been waiting for. While this official Super Bowl spot is short, it gives us more information than we can handle. In fact, this looks like a completely different series. Gone are the Labeoufs, random hot girl poses, and military action, and here in its place is the lovable (and more action oriented) Mark Wahlberg, a girl who plays his daughter instead of love interest, oh and DINOBOTS.

Yes the dinosaur robots rumored and teased for the better half of a year have finally been revealed. AND OPTIMUS PRIME RIDES A TYRANNOSAURUS REX. It all looks so good, I'm willing to forgive the other films and look at this from a positive angle from now on. It just looks fun. Transformers: Age of Extinction rolls out June 27th.
