Nick's Top 10 Movie Music Moments of 2014 photo
Nick's Top 10 Movie Music Moments of 2014
by Nick Valdez

Music plays an integral role in film. Easily ignored, easily forgotten, a film's soundtrack is the little celebrated framework of cinema. But when sound and sight marry into a great scene, you get some of the best moments. Like in 2013, 2014 had a wide array of music. From 70s rock, to dance pop, to Euro trance, jazz, quirky originals, and even a few oddballs.

To earn a spot on this list a film's got to have a scene that uses its soundtrack so well, I remember it weeks or even months after I've seen it. So let's get to it then, yeah.

Here are my picks for The Top 10 Movie Music Moments of 2014.

Nick's Top 5 Sequels of 2014 photo
Nick's Top 5 Sequels of 2014
by Nick Valdez

We've seen more sequels released the last few years than we have in a long time. While 2015 seems to continue that trend, last year showed that we shouldn't automatically write off a film just because it's a sequel. I've seen so many good sequels last year that it was finally time to designate an entire list to them. Sure I could write about 2014's best actors or scenes, but I think it's important to celebrate a sequel that gets it right.

Since we're going to get so many more from here on out, let's hope that future sequels will be as good as the five presented here.

Without further ado, here are my picks for The Top 5 Sequels of 2014.

Fox reveals release dates for Gambit, Assassin's Creed and others

Oscar Isaac is X-Men: Apocalypse's...Apocalypse

Oscar Isaac truly is a renaissance man. He's one of the few actors I can take seriously in anything he chooses. In fact if he decided to don a fat suit and fart for three hours in his next film, I'd still see it six times. Bu...

Flixist Community Discusses: X-Men: Days of Future Past
by Nick Valdez

X-Men: Days of Future Past is the seventh X-Men film. Let that sink in for a moment. From the time the X-Men series began we've had world politics change forever, several global warming scares, and three different incarnations of the Hulk. It's been a wild ride. Days of Future Past is like a time capsule of the 00s, a time where heroes wearing black leather is still cool, things don't need to make sense, and old men are fearsome villains.

But was it all worth it? Although I thought it was good in my review, did the Flixist Community agree? Thanks to Flixist Community Discusses, we'll discover why DOFP may or may not be successful in what it set out to do!

Gathered from the comments (from both the opinions post and the review) and Twitter, here's what the Flixist Community thinks of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Spoilers ahead!

Review: X-Men: Days of Future Past photo
Review: X-Men: Days of Future Past
by Nick Valdez

The X-Men movies have a troubled past. Three out of the six previous films have been critically ripped apart. Yet in spite of their dubious quality, each of the X-Films have done extremely well commercially. Basically, no matter how bad we might say the franchise has gotten, there's still a desire to see each one. I know I still watch these movies hoping they'll nail it someday.

But where does that leave the seventh film in the X-Men series, Days of Future Past? After rebooting the franchise, rebooting Wolverine's origins, changing directors multiple times (and will sadly have to do that once again thanks to recent unfortunate events), and creating a continuity so convoluted no one knows what's going on anymore, Days of Future Past has quite the mountain to climb.

Luckily for both fans of the X-Men and fans of comic book movies in general, Days of Future Past says "F**k all that" and delivers the best X-Men film to date.

Final trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past photo
Final trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past
by Nick Valdez

It looks like they've saved the best trailer for last. As X-Men: Days of Future Past gets closer to its release later this May, we finally have a trailer that is as great looking as the first one. We have a good amount of plot without spoiling any of the details (such as Wolverine's mode of time travel), some neat character shout outs (and a good, hard look at Quicksilver in stupid looking googles motion), and the set pieces are full of zazz. Oh and those Sentinels look fantastic.

Fox may have trouble with its posters, but these trailers really make the X-Men pop. I'm hoping the film can live up to this. X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23rd.

And while you're waiting, why not give the Flixist X-Cast a listen? It's good stuff.
