Children of the 80's, prepare to have your nostalgia tickled. Director Colin Trevorrow and writer Derek Connolly are remaking Flight of the Navigator. Trevorrow and Connolly are the duo that made Safety Not Guaranteed. Seems like this Disney remake is what fueled rumors that Trevorrow would direct Star Wars: Episode VII. (All eyes now turn to Matthew Vaughn as the potential Star Wars director.)

If you haven't seen Flight of the Navigator, you really ought to. It's a fun little hootenanny of a movie. Released in 1986, it concerns a time-lost boy and a shape-shifting silver spaceship piloted by a computer nicknamed Max. (Max is voiced by Paul Reubens, who occasionally goes Pee Wee on it. I wonder if Trevorrow will invite Reubens back for the ride.) There's an unlikely friendship, a small menagerie of kooky alien lifeforms, and a smoking synth-pop score by Alan "Back to the Future" Silvestri.

Flixist EIC Matt said that he can't even estimate how many times he saw the movie as a kid. I'm in the same boat. I think I still have a playable VHS copy of Flight of the Navigator at my parents's place. If anything, you can find the full movie online, and the same goes for Silvestri's boppin' Flight of the Navigator tunes.

With that in mind, your new jam awaits after the cut.
