Creating the score for Beasts of the Southern Wild
As the awards season looms, many have been wondering where Beasts of the Southern Wild will fit into the mix. Directed by Benh Zeitlin, the movie is the indie darling of the year, and there's been lots of buzz over its stars, Quvenzhané Wallis and Dwight Henry. Henry secured a role in Steve McQueen's forthcoming Twelve Years a Slave, while Wallis is bound to be this year's breakout performance. Another memorable part of Beasts of the Southern Wild is the score, which is like Cajun-infused post-rock. Zeitlin co-composed the music with Dan Romer, and the above video goes into the creative/collaborative process. After the cut is a 13-minute suite of the Beasts of the Southern Wild score. Beasts of the Southern Wild is one of this week's DVD/Blu-ray new releases and is now available in stores. Did you know?
