Disney unveils its 2014-15 film release slateJust the other day, Disney announced its planned film releases for 2014 and 2015. Notably, there are a few big changes. Maleficent, the Angelina Jolie (and daughter) starring prequel to Sleeping Beauty, is moved from its original March release date to July. The Muppets 2, on the other hand gets a March 21st 2014 release, Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof's mysterious 1952 gets a December release, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier gets an awesomely alliterate April 4th, 2014 release date. Strangely missing is The Little Mermaid 3D scheduled for a re-release this September. Surprisingly, it was dropped from the schedule because of how poorly the other re-releases have done so far (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo). While I'm glad it's not getting re-released for a cash grab, I'm kind of mad it's not getting re-released for a cash grab. I loved watching Lion King and Beauty in the theater, so I'm sad to see it go. They don't even need to "3D" it. Just re-release it as is...maybe with a touch up or so like the Diamond Edition Blu-rays have done so far. The full list of dates (including Guardians of the Galaxy), is after the jump. [via The Disney Blog] The Muppets 2 - 3/21/14 Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 4/4/2014 Maleficent - 7/2/2014 Guardians of the Galaxy - 8/14/2014 1952 - 12/19/2014 Pirates of the Caribbean 5 - 7/10/2015
