Flix for Short: Laika

12:00 PM on 12.14.2012

This short is a re-imagining of Laika, the first Cosmonaut dog and her ill-fated trip to space. Using adorable animation and flashbacks, animator Avgousta Zourelidi explores what the momentous experiment might have been like from Laika's point of view.

The real-life Laika was the first living being to travel into space, and even though her mission was entirely doomed from the beginning, she still underwent special training courses to wear and interact with the space-exploration equipment. There is now a statue dedicated to her in Star City, Russia.

Flix for Short: Le Taxidermiste

Le Taxidermiste is an incredibly cute video about death and the preservation of life. The storyline may be relatively subdued, but the incredible visual detail and style is enough to keep my attention the whole time. Also, dat keyboard solo. The adorable Le Taxidermiste was created by Paulin Cointot, Dorianne Fibleuil, Antoine Robert, and Maud Sertour. [via Vimeo]
