James Cameron is looking to launch a new Terminator trilogy

I'll be back... again and again and agia

So the Terminator franchise reboot hasn't gone as planned... either time. Obviously the franchise is still considered a moneymaker for whatever reason, but no one seems to be able to get a successful film out of it anymore.

Actually, who really thinks this is a franchise people want in the first place? Why are even talking about making more? Well, because James Cameron wants to evidently.

The director has revealed that he's looking to make a whole new trilogy for the series (no Arnold, though). Speaking with News.com.au the director had this to say:

“The question is — has the franchise run its course or can it be freshened up? So I am in discussions with David Ellison, who is the current rights holder globally for the Terminator franchise and the rights in the US market revert to me under US copyright law in a year and a half, so he and I are talking about what we can do. Right now we are leaning toward doing a three-film arc and reinventing it.”

I think the answer to his first question is that it has run its course, and I'm not sure anyone wants it reinvented. I'm fine with Cameron making a new series about robots killing humans in an epic war, and some time travel stuff, but maybe just make it its own thing. I suppose Cameron having the rights would be helpful in some sort of quality control realm, but I really just don't see the need for this franchise to live on.
