James Cameron to team up with Mythbusters over TitanicAfter last week's WTF-ery (the lovable Independence Day sequels, Brave Little Toaster remake announcement, and Resident Evil: Retribution), I was hoping that I would emerge from the weekend fresh and ready to take on the world. Then I found out James Cameron is teaming up with the Mythbusters to prove that Jack didn't throw his handsome, handsome life away by not climbing up on that plank with Rose at the end of Titanic. This is obviously a debate for the ages, and I'm pretty sure Cameron is the only one on his side. “Actually, it’s not a question of room, it’s a question of buoyancy...When Jack puts Rose on the raft, then he tries to get on the raft. He’s not an idiot, he doesn’t want to die. And the raft sinks and it kind of flips. So it’s clear that there’s really only enough buoyancy available for one person. So he makes a decision to let her be that person instead of taking them both down...If you know anything about hypothermia, the more you’re submerged — and she’s completely out of the water on the raft, and it’s only about that far above the surface...If they he had gotten on with her they both would have been half in and half out of the water, even if they could balance on it, and they would have both died.” Sound logic, Jimmy, but you better call in the experts. "It’s interesting, 'cause I think MythBusters is gonna tackle this problem, and I’m gonna help them do it, actually. We’re gonna put it to rest.” Oh, good. Expect a follow-up to this article when that gem of an episode airs. Knowing my luck, stupid, smug James Cameron is right and we'll all look really stupid as he lords over us with his stupid, smug face. [Via /film] Did you know?
