Michael Fassbender says there's an entire Assassin's Creed film trilogy mapped out
Whether or not we'll see it, though...
The reviews for Assassin's Creed have been about as lackluster as the box office. Since opening on December 21st, the film has only earned about $11.2 million. It came in fifth place for the Christmas weekend, beaten by Why Him?, Passengers, Sing, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
I bring this up because Michael Fassbender mentioned in an interview with Cinema Blend last week that there's an Assassin's Creed movie trilogy that's been mapped out. Behold the folly of man.
"This is the sort of origin of his story," Fassbender said. "We have an idea of where he’s going to go over the next two films. We kind of did a three-film arc. We’ll wait and see how people respond to this, but for sure, we have an idea of where he’s going to go next."
Maybe they're going to Hot Topic in the mall next?

In a way, it makes sense that Assassin's Creed was looking ahead to a potential franchise--that's what all properties seem to do these days. Yet it's unlikely we'll see the next two films just given the crummy box office performance of the first film.
It's a bit of a shame since Justin Kurzel is a solid director, and his idea for a Cold War Assassin's Creed sequel might have been an interesting departure.
This reminds me of Alain Corre (a top European exec for Ubisoft) downplaying box office expectations for the film earlier this year. In essence, Assassin's Creed: The Movie was more like Assassin's Creed: The Movie: The Commercial for the Video Games.
