It's hard to believe, but we're just one week away from Christmas. You may be wondering where your year has gone right about now, and just how many times you've listened to A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector since the month began. (Will be roughly 18 times for me by the afternoon, I think. Once a day, like vitamins.) If you need some ideas for this final week before annual gift day, you can consider our last-minute gift guide or give this week's new releases a gander.
On the new side, there's the remake of Total Recall, Pitch Perfect, Liberal Arts, and Trouble With the Curve. If you're buying something for an NPR/PRI/This American Life fan, you may want to consider Mike Birbiglia's Sleepwalk with Me. (Oddly, I'm the ideal, urbane, public-radio-listening target viewer for that film but wasn't all too fond of it.) There's also Trailer War, a vintage trailer compilation, which includes a clip of Infra-Man, one of the first five movies I remember watching.
On the re-release side, you can now get all three live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies on Blu-ray even though you should only buy the first two. There's a box set of Tenchi Muyo movies as well. The re-release I'm most interested in is the Alexander Sokurov early works box set. Sokurov is probably best known for Russian Ark and last year's Faust.
Take a look at what's out on DVD and Blu-ray after the cut, with some special Christmas jams for you.
