Last week saw the release of the first still from Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac, which is sure to be one of the most talked about films of 2013. One reason: Shia LaBeouf will have actual intercourse on screen. (*shudders*) Another reason is the above still, featuring Charlotte Gainbourg and two obviously close friends.
Nymphomaniac is about Gainbourg's character relating the story of her life to a bachelor played by Stellan Skarsgård after being found beaten in the street. If the first still is how her character is during the present, this new still reveals some of her past. Gainsbourg did have some graphic sex scenes in Von Trier's 2009 film Antichrist, though some of the more explicit moments involved body doubles. In addition to Gainsbourg, Skarsgård, and LaBeouf, Nymphomaniac will feature Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, Christian Slater, Connie Nielsen, and Jamie Bell.
No word yet on a release date or premiere for Nymphomaniac. The Playlist assumes the movie may appear at Cannes without Von Trier present. (You may recall Von Trier was banned from Cannes for comments about Nazism.) The above still has been included in the gallery.
