In what is truly a sacrifice for his art, we have been given a poster for Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives where Ryan Gosling's beautiful mug has been put through the meat grinder. Yeesh. This unforgivable crime makes a bit more sense when put into the context of the movie, so here it goes. After murdering an officer Gosling's character escapes to Bangkok where he ends up running a Thai boxing club that is also a front for drug running. Ten years after his exile, Gosling's brother is killed as retribution for the murder of a prostitute, and revenge begets revenge, blah blah, so on and so forth. The point is, this family is messed up and it's probably not a good idea to go around pissing them off by killing their siblings.

Only God Forgives is Refn's follow up to Drive, which also starred Gosling and was one of the most monumental films from last year, nay, from the last several years, so to say that my anticipation will have to find new heights to attain is not hyperbole. Of course, it sure is going to be hard to see my boy all beat to a pulp for the length an entire film. I'll just have to make peace with it, I guess.
