Sundance 2013: We're here and freezing

Sundance 2013: We're here and freezing photo

One year, one poorly packed suitcase, and one regretful purchase of one $200 coat at American Apparel later, Sundance is here again and here I am in it, freezing and happy. 2012 was my first year as honest-to-goodness press at Sundance -- in 2007, I attended as clueless-college-freshman press -- and it was an unforgettable experience. I never enjoyed sitting quietly in a small room with strangers so much. The quality of films, element of surprise (what other debut film premiered at a film festival and made it's way to the Oscars?), and charming yet brutal environment makes Sundance my favorite time of year.

This Sundance, I'll be covering the festival solo again with plans to see over thirty films (last year: 27). Expect reviews, recaps, news, and other Sundance related content, starting off with my top ten most anticipated films which will go up later today.

Tomorrow morning (if the wifi gods smile down on me), I'll have reviews up for murder mystery doc Who is Dayani Cristal? and a Spanish film starring Micheal Cera (yeah) by the name of Crystal Fairy. That's right: I'm doubling down on dem crystalz. The question is: Do I sneak in Crystal Head vodka or Crystal Light into the theater?

Tribeca Film Festival 2013: Flixist Awards and Recap

And so another film festival comes to a close. This year's Tribeca wasn't the most spectacular fest of all time, but it had a solid lineup and we saw some good movies. As per usual, Hubert rocked things hardcore, and Alec pic...

The 2013 Tribeca Film Festival is upon us

Another day, another festival. This one's a big one, though, one of the biggest. The 2013 Tribeca Film Festival (the long awaited sequel to the not fantastic 2012 fest). This year, we're one man shorter on the coverage, but H...

The 2013 New York Korean Film Festival should be awesome

Last year's New York Korean Film Festival was awesome. It had a great selection, including one film that I now count among my favorites of all time. I have been looking forward to NYKFF's return ever since, and I don't h...

New York City First Time Fest focuses on filmmaker debuts

As cool as it is to be one of the first people to see the next thing by established filmmakers at film festivals, it's the new stuff that's really exciting. Debuts are rarely the most polished or effective efforts, but they s...

Sundance 2013: Top five films of the festival (and more)

Another Sundance, another 27 films reviewed. Though this is only my third year, Sundance 2013 is by far the greatest one I attended yet. Even bolder, I'll say that it may be the greatest in the festival's history. Looking bac...
