Terminator: Genisys Will Likely Be PG-13

Slight disappointment coming from me (and other fans, I'm sure) as it's been revealed the next installment of the Terminator franchise — which, apparently, isn't a sequel or a reboot, it's just kind of there — wil...

Rumor: Deadpool movie aiming for PG-13 rating

All right. Everyone calm down. I know we were all excited when we heard that the Deadpool movie was actually going to happen, but this is Hollywood and just like they screwed up the character the first time around they're aim...

Looks like the new Godzilla film will not be so violent

It seems that the ratings have just come out for the latest Godzilla film and it is looking like it wont be as adult as some people might have wanted, coming in with a PG rating. Personally, growing up, I was a huge fan of Go...

Study shows PG-13 films are more violent than R films

You know what? PG-13 rated flicks get away with quite a bit as long as they refrain from using "f**k" more than once and show less than 2 naked breasts. You may have noticed the increase in allowable body counts in say...G.I....

RoboCop being shot for a PG-13 rating

Ever since the Robocop reboot script leaked things have been pretty dour for our half-human law enforcer. It's just hard to get people excited for sucking. However, word from SDCC was that it didn't look entirely terribl...

Should kids be allowed into R-rated movies? photo
Should kids be allowed into R-rated movies?
by Alec Kubas-Meyer

Sorry we're a day late, folks, but festival season has officially kicked off and that makes scheduling everything else much more difficult. Next week we should be back on track. To make up for our lateness, we've got a fuller cast than usual as the Flixist staff considers whether or not kids/teens should be allowed to see R-rated films (especially in a theater setting). Fittingly, this is our first video that be rater R for language (because the way our rating system treats coarse language is ridiculous). I don't know that you'd want to be blasting this in work or around your children anyway, but I guess that makes this more not-safe-for-work than your average video of Flixist's talking heads.

Anyways, now that you've heard what we thought, what do you think? Should parents be allowed to bring their terrible children into a theater and ruin your experience or should they be locked in a padded room until they're 17 to keep them away from the cinematic filth that undermines our society's moral standing? Let us know in the comments below!

The Rating Game: A Tale of Blood, Guts, and the MPAA photo
The Rating Game: A Tale of Blood, Guts, and the MPAA
by Sean Walsh

After the news broke that the first cut of Evil Dead received an NC-17 rating, Alec shot me a text suggesting I write up a little somethin' somethin' about whether or not the entire concept of NC-17 horror is a good thing.

That got me thinking, and thinking hard, about the genre. I've done my best to carve my niche on this site as the horror guy and I certainly have the scars to prove it. I've seen a lot of horror films and while I wouldn't call myself an authority, I do think I'm adequately qualified to weigh in on whether or not we really need NC-17 horror.

News that I'm sure will please fans of everything blood and gore, director Fede Alvarez recently Tweeted that his first cut of the Evil Dead remake that was submitted to the MPAA came back with an NC-17 rating. He said h...

Man of Steel steals a PG-13 rating...obviously

I hope you weren't expecting too much "grittiness" from a Superman film. Superman has always been a good, clean hero and it looks like that's not changing too much for Man of Steel. Despite Snyder and Nolan's gritty take...

A Good Day to Die Hard gets the 'R' rating it deserves!

One of the bones I had with John Moore's upcoming A Good Day to Die Hard was that we were all fairly positive that it was going to get a PG-13 rating, not unlike its movie sibling Live Free or Die Hard, a fact I was begr...

The MPAA doesn't like joy, rates Prometheus R

It's not officially announced, but looks like the MPAA has handed down an R rating of Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Images of pre-sale ticket stubs, which you can see in the gallery, reveal the big ugly R. That will limit the si...

The Divide releasing unrated cut in 2012

After watching the trailer, I got really psyched for The Divide. It looks dark and unpleasant(in a not-Human Centipede 2 kind of way), and it has Michael Biehn, a.k.a. World's Most Famous "That Guy" Actor. Anchor Bay has anno...
