Trailer: Aftershock

7:00 PM on 12.21.2012

Aftershock is a natural disaster film that's all about the resulting human drama. It's Nicolas Lopez's first domestic directing gig, and stars (and is produced by) Eli Roth. It centers around a gang of friends on a trip to Chile as they're hit by an earthquake that also releases some folks from an asylum nearby. Even if that premise sounds awfully goofy, the trailer looks gritty enough to work.

I'm just worried that the whole thing might be too corny. But then again, cheesy horror has its place too. I'll keep an an eye out for it when it releases sometime next year.

New motion poster for Carrie remake

Motion posters are cool ... right? A new motion poster (also known as the .gif's more sophisticated older sibling) has been released for Kimberly Peirce's adaptation of the Stephen King novel -- Carrie. The motion poster feat...

New World War Z poster isn't even trying anymore

World War Z with Brad Pitt is pretty much DOA. We know, for instance, that the bloated, unfaithful, neutered (it's a bloodless PG-13) adaptation of the Max Brooks book will need to make $400 million just to break even, and th...

Limited children's picture book of The ABCs of Death

Regardless your feelings on The ABCs of Death, this is something that fans and non-fans can probably get behind. Producers Ant Timpson and Tim League made a special children's book version of The ABCs of Death, written by Zac...

Jim Jarmusch on his vampire movie Only Lovers Left Alive

I'm a fan of Jim Jarmusch's movies. He has a weird way of turning moments of boredom into something complicated and interesting, as seen in Stranger Than Paradise, Down by Law, Night on Earth, and Mystery Train. He's also cap...

Book: Peter Cushing: A Life in Film

Peter Cushing is an icon, instantly recognizable for his angular face and his precise elocution. He's best known for his Hammer roles as Dr. Frankenstein and Van Helsing, as well as playing Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars. He'...

Trailer: V/H/S/2 (Red Band)

If the great reviews and Hubes's stellar interview with the directors of V/H/S/2 during its Tribeca run didn't whet your appetite for a horror anthology, then maybe this trailer will fix that. The first V/H/S, now avail...

ABCs of Death 2 is in the works

The ABCs of Death was an interesting experiment as far as anthology horror movies go. Despite some great entries by Marcel Sarmiento (D is for Dogfight), Xavier Gens (X is for XXL), and Lee Hardcastle (T is for Toilet), the f...

Trailer: Berberian Sound Studio

When I saw Peter Stricckland's Berberian Sound Studio last year at the New York Film Festival, it felt like two-thirds of a potentially great movie. The film was sort of like Barton Fink but for foley artists and a...

Review: Aftershock

Sometimes movies are filled with unlikable characters, and that turns a lot of people off. I never go to movies to make friends with the characters. I actually think that lots of unlikable characters can be compelling. And th...

Tribeca Interview: The directors of V/H/S/2

It's odd how things work. The day after I wrote a very negative review about a found footage movie I didn't like, I wound up interviewing four of the directors responsible for V/H/S/2, a found footage movie that I did like. G...
