Trailer: Fugu & Tako

6:00 PM on 05.16.2012

Fugu & Tako looks incredibly strange in the best possible way -- the type of movie I'd pair with The Calamari Wrestler for a night of sake, sushi, and Asahi. It's not a feature film, but rather a seven-and-a-half-minute short. Whatever it is, I'd like to sit down and watch it (preferably with sake, sushi, and Asahi).

The film is from Australian director Ben West. I just came across a recent (and tech-heavy) interview that West did with fxguide, and it turns out that pufferfish head is all CG. It's pretty phenomenal work. Like James Marsh over at Twitch Film notes, that face is remarkably expressive and the effects look great.

Fugu & Tako is working its way around the festival circuit. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for it.
