Trailer: Girls Against Boys

8:00 PM on 01.08.2013

Danielle Panabaker plays Shae, who first gets dumped and then sexually assaulted. She then follows her friend Lu in a man-killing spree after getting revenge on the man who assaulted her. I'm not sure what to think of GAB exactly. Is it supposed to be a female empowerment flick? It doesn't look like that at all.

The trailer seems to glorify the kills and their sexuality more than the power the women claim they're feeling. It might be worth a watch at least, but something about GAB seems off. Well, I guess we'll see when it has a limited release February 1st.

Book: Peter Cushing: A Life in Film

Peter Cushing is an icon, instantly recognizable for his angular face and his precise elocution. He's best known for his Hammer roles as Dr. Frankenstein and Van Helsing, as well as playing Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars. He'...

Trailer: V/H/S/2 (Red Band)

If the great reviews and Hubes's stellar interview with the directors of V/H/S/2 during its Tribeca run didn't whet your appetite for a horror anthology, then maybe this trailer will fix that. The first V/H/S, now avail...

The ABCs of Death was an interesting experiment as far as anthology horror movies go. Despite some great entries by Marcel Sarmiento (D is for Dogfight), Xavier Gens (X is for XXL), and Lee Hardcastle (T is for Toilet), the f...

Trailer: Berberian Sound Studio

When I saw Peter Stricckland's Berberian Sound Studio last year at the New York Film Festival, it felt like two-thirds of a potentially great movie. The film was sort of like Barton Fink but for foley artists and a...

Review: Aftershock

Sometimes movies are filled with unlikable characters, and that turns a lot of people off. I never go to movies to make friends with the characters. I actually think that lots of unlikable characters can be compelling. And th...

Tribeca Interview: The directors of V/H/S/2

It's odd how things work. The day after I wrote a very negative review about a found footage movie I didn't like, I wound up interviewing four of the directors responsible for V/H/S/2, a found footage movie that I did like. G...

Teaser Trailer: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

I've felt that the [REC] series has been a case of diminishing returns. I really liked the first one, thought the second one was good but had an issue with the break in tension midway through, and, well, then there was a thi...

Director Danny Mulheron has a really huge personality, and talking to him last week I could sense a lot of that in the movie Fresh Meat. Both he and actress Kate Elliott were in town for the Tribeca Film Festival, and the fes...
