Disclaimer: If you were expecting Spring Breakers to be a throwaway party film full of beer, boobs, butts, and bikinis, you might not want to watch this trailer. Behind the bubblegum appearance of the film's cast comprised of pretty ladies and Selena Gomez and James Franco's maybe Riff Raff-inspired character is a dark narrative full of drugs and violence.
As seen in the latest trailer, Spring Breakers follows four young women (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine) ready to make their upcoming spring break the most memorable yet... by any means. Things begin to escalate when they find themselves employed by a guns/drugs dealer, Alien (Franco).
I honestly thought the film would be nothing more than a light bubblegum comedy full of party shenanigans, but the trailer made me a believer. After all, the film is directed by Harmony Korine, the screenwriter for Kids. What it won't make me reconsider, however, is how Gomez's face doesn't match her body or voice.
Spring Breakers will be in theaters on March 22nd, but SXSW attendees will be able to catch it a few weeks early.
