Ching Siu-tung (aka Tony Ching) has directed a number of notable films over the years, including Duel to the Death, A Chinese Ghost Story, and Swordsman II. He's also done some great action direction on Shaolin Soccer, Hero, and House of Flying Daggers. Released in China in 2011, The Sorcerer and the White Snake re-teams Ching with Jet Li, and it looks like it could be pretty fun.
Here's a synopsis for The Sorcerer and the White Snake:
Action director Ching Siu-tung helms this fantasy film based on an old Chinese legend about an herbalist who falls in love with a thousand-year-old White Snake disguised as a woman. Jet Li stars as a sorcerer who discovers her true identity and battles to save the man's soul.
Obviously this old Chinese legend was also the starting point for the Buzzcocks song "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)." (Story of my life, man.)
I've always had a strange affinity for Chinese fantasy films, so I'm looking forward to this. The Sorcerer and the White Snake hits VOD on January 3rd, then plays in theaters starting February 8th.
