About
Nick Valdez likes chick flicks, kid flicks, dick flicks, and skin flicks. Also musicals (Glee!). One time, he wrote a 15 page thesis on the training montage's effect on the hero's journey in Rocky. His favorite film is Zoolander or Machete. If he could mix the two and create Zoochete, he would in a heartbeat. One day he wishes to travel across the United States "David Banner" style while dragging around a player piano or that orangutan from Every Which Way But Loose.

Review: The Scribbler

When I choose to review a film it's because it something about it speaks to me. Whether it's the premise, the setting, the look, or the cast involved, I'm willing to take a chance on pretty much anything if some of those thin...

Here's a stunning first look at the CG animated Popeye

If you were at all worried about the state of Genndy Tartakovsky's (the man who brought us Hotel Transylvania, Dexter's Laboratory, and Samurai Jack) take on Popeye, there's no need to worry anymore. Although this first foot...

Review: The Maze Runner

As  Flixist's resident Young Adult novel correspondent, I've seen lots of forgettable teen films. With studios betting huge fortunes on these films becoming successful franchises (like Twilight and The Hunger Games), mos...

Deadpool movie actually happening, gets release date

Folks, is this real? Is this truly, truly real? It seems 20th Century Fox is finally fulfilling the promise made long ago (which possibly is attributed to the test footage "leak" a while back) with an X-Men spin-off starring ...

Netflix Now: I Stand With Kanye

Last Friday during a concert in Sydney, Australia, Kanye West said he wasn't going to perform unless everyone in the audience stood up. Then he sent his bodyguard into the crowd to verify why a certain person was sitting, the...

Krispy Kreme is releasing Ghostbusters inspired donuts

Everyone, I really really like donuts. Whether they're spelled "doughnuts" (i.e. the wrong way) or "donuts" (the right way), they're just always so damn tasty. You know what's not tasty? Ghostbusters. That film never inspired...

Review: The Guest

When I saw the first trailer for The Guest I wasn't particularly interested in the film. It looked generic, bland, and seemed like yet another trite thriller that comes out around Halloween for a cheap buck. But like You're N...

First trailer for Serena reunites Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper

A few years ago, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence shot three films together: Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Susanne Bier's Serena. Although Serena was filmed at the same time as the other two, it's been st...

We're getting another I Know What You Did Last Summer

I Know What You Did Last Seventeen Years Ago was a big hit when it first arrived in 1997 during Kevin Williamson's golden age where he wrote scripts for films like Scream and The Faculty. And as such, it did well enough to ge...

So I got this condom from The Guest PR

To promote a recent screening of The Guest, I was given a shot glass (detailing a shot recipe in the film), a cool CD of the film's soundtrack, and a condom (which I thought was a matchbook first). I'm just telling you guys a...

Avengers: Age of Ultron gets official synopsis

Now that Avengers: Age of Ultron has wrapped principal photography, hopefully little tidbits will peer out now and then until its release next year. As it's the only Marvel film for awhile, I'm sure we're going to be talking ...

The Mockingjay lives in this newest trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

Looks like a girl, but she's a flame. As Flixist's resident Young Adult book advisor, I love me some Hunger Games (and will always exploit Alicia Keys' once hit single) and I'm glad the newest trailer finally shows off how d...

Will Ferrell says Zoolander 2 is really really good looking

I hope I'm not the only person left holding a candlelight vigil every night until Zoolander 2 becomes a thing. News of the struggling production for the sequel a few of us want has been floating around for years. All we've be...

First trailer for John Wick starring Keanu Reeves and a puppy

John Wick has no right looking as interesting as it does. Revenge thrillers are always hit or miss. You take an aging actor, and send him out to kill some dudes. Sometimes it's goofy fun (Man of Fire), sometimes it's goofy f...

Box Office Numbers: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Surprising absolutely everyone, No Good Deed managed to take the top spot at the box office during a dead weekend. Seriously, if you had to choose between a glistening, shirtless Idris Elba, watching a poorly advertised crime...

Alex Kurtzman teases a darker Venom spin-off

It'd be incredibly risky to take a dark tone with a big superhero franchise, but that might be the perfect kick in the pants for The Amazing Spider-Man. And what better character to do it than Venom? After The Amazing Spider-...

Now that Halloween is a few weeks away, we're going to get a deluge of trailers for horror films. I'll try and highlight only the most interesting, but to be honest I picked this one because it reminded me of that sweet Katy...

First trailer for The Town That Dreaded Sundown

Now I don't know much about the original The Town That Dreaded Sundown from 1976, but I do know it came out before slasher films became super popular and crafted personalities for each series of films. When you look back and...

Trailer for David Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars

I think I may be one of the few people who prefer David Cronenberg's eXistenZ to films like Eastern Promises or Scanners. But regardless of whether he takes a fantastical or realistic bend on his films, they're always twiste...

Godzilla was only in Godzilla less than ten minutes

One of the primary complaints most folks have with the latest Godzilla film was that the big lug wasn't around enough (yet it earned enough at the box office to earn a kick ass sequel). That's a fine complaint, but my issue ...
