WAFCA announces its 2012 awardsThe Washington DC Area Film Critics Association, of which I am a proud member has once again released its winners for the WAFCA Awards. After nominating a wide range of films and actors for the usual categories the winners were announced this morning, and while I didn't agree with all of them there's definitely some great choices in here. The winner of Best Pictures was Zero Dark Thirty, which is definitely a thrilling and well made triumph though was far from my choice for best film. Daniel Day-Lewis may not be a surprise for Best Actor, but I was hoping that Jaquin Phoenix's truly profound performance in The Master would be better remembered as it was easily the best performance of the year. I do strongly support Anne Hathaway's win for Best Supporting Actress and ParaNorman's win for Best Animated, because it was awesome and not a Pixar film. Also, Rian Johnson getting some love for the beautifully constructed Looper in the form of Best Screenplay is definitely a big thumbs up. The two things I'm really upset about are Roger Deakins not getting the nod for his impeccable cinematography in Skyfall and Javier Bardem losing out to Phillip Seymour Hoffman in The Master for Best Supporting. In fact the lack of Skyfall in general is just preposterous. If this were the Matt Razak Awards for Best Things Ever all of them would go to Skyfall. Check out all the awards below. THE 2012 WAFCA AWARD WINNERS: Best Film:
Zero Dark Thirty Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) Best Actress: Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) Best Supporting Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) Best Acting Ensemble: Les Misérables Best Adapted Screenplay: David O.
