'John Wick: Chapter Three' just got a release date

Action movies are dead, long live the action movie

In an era of derivative, bland action movies, the John Wick series has been fighting against the tide with excellent fights, and minimal BS. While the second film was less well received than the series first outing, John Wick: Chapter Two was still leagues above it's modern competitors, and was able to deliver thrills without the frills in a satisfying two-hour experience. We've known there would be a third chapter for a while now, but today we can finally mark our calenders.

Lionsgate announced today that John Wick: Chapter Three will premiere on May 17, 2019. Of course, Keanu Reeves will return as the titular Wick, ready to deliver more stony looks at his enemies...before shooting them.

Hopefully, this last installment returns to the minimal budget of the first film. While the second outing was still good, it felt needlessly bogged down by a larger budget, a common problem in most films today. A meager budget could allow for the laser-focused precision of the first too return, while still delivering the excellent action that remains a constant throughout each entry.

We'll see how it pans out when John Wick: Chapter Three hits theaters on May 17, 2019.
