An Agent Carter revival on Disney+ could happen

0

"It was an expensive show"

The verdict is in, and people want more Peggy Carter. While her ABC show Agent Carter may have been unceremoniously canceled after two seasons, a couple of cameos in the box-office breaking Avengers: Endgame sparked some re-interest from fans of the show. Couple that with how many MCU supporting characters are getting their own show on upcoming streaming service Disney+, and you have the pieces for a potential Agent Carter revival. The growing interest was enough to prompt the Los Angeles Times in asking Endgame co-writers and Agent Carter co-creators about the possibility.

When asked about a potential Disney+ revival or continuation, co-writer Stephen McFeely offered what was neither a confirmation nor denial.

"From your lips to [Disney CEO] Bob Iger’s ears. I don’t know. It was an expensive show. You’re doing period as well as you can in Los Angeles. I don’t know how big the fanbase is, but what it is is really dedicated. And we love the character. So I don’t know, I just don’t know."

Hey, we'll take that statement over nothing for the time being. At the very least, McFeely acknowledged that there is an interest from fans, and said love for Peggy Carter may indicate some interest. It just appears that the matter is entirely out of the writers' hands.

In case you missed it, I wrote up a long piece about why Agent Carter deserves another chance on Disney+. Not only do I believe that the show itself is underrated and overlooked (everyone should experience the wonder that is James D'Arcy's Edwin Jarvis), but the involvement of McFeely, his co-writer Christopher Markus, Marvel Studios heads Kevin Feige and Louis D'Esposito, and at least one of the Russo brothers (who direct an episode) gives this show more clout than any other Marvel Television production. It may be up to outgoing Disney CEO Bob Iger, but after Avengers: Endgame became the second-highest grossing film of all-time, any of the above figures could give Iger a nudge. We get that television production is quite expensive, and Marvel Studios will probably want their own television shows to look as high-quality as possible, but have you seen how much money they must have now?

A third season could pick up any loose threads from season two's absurd cliffhanger, where not only is Peggy's future husband still unknown, but a main character literally got shot. But with Endgame opening up alternate timelines, a lot of online commentators have some ideas of how a revival could instead take advantage of that route. The upcoming Loki television show for sure must be dealing with those alternate timelines, and we even have explicit confirmation from a trailer that Spider-Man: Far From Home includes the multiverse in some capacity for that film's plot. Whatever the case behind-the-scenes in Disney, it is likely that Marvel Studios will want to see how The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the still-horribly-titled WandaVision will pan out for the yet-to-be-proven streaming service.

Do the right thing, Disney. Peggy Carter deserves better, so throw all your money at her, and Dottie Underwood as well. Throw in another musical number while you're at it.
