Avast! Here be a featurette for Pirates of the Caribbean 4!

Has a pirate ever used the word ‘featurette’? If not, now’s the time – Entertainment Tonight’s behind-the-scenes look at the latest entry in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, On Stranger Tides, has taken aboard the good ship YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

The good news is that the plot is sounding considerably less convoluted than the mess that tied Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End in knots, being neatly sum-uppable as “Jack Sparrow goes to get his ship back and hunt for the fountain of youth.” Whether the all-important humour is up to scratch remains to be seen – for my money, the sequels’ biggest problem was the abundance of long, mirth-free stretches – but the action is looked as snazzy as could be expected, including Cap’n Jack surfing carriages on the roads of Olde England and the usual ship-based shenanigans. The clip also shows Penelope Cruz being swarthy, the return of Geoffrey Rush as the immortal Hector Barbossa and the briefest glimpse of Ian McShane as Blackbeard. Better yet, there’s not so much as a hint of Orlando Bloom.

The film’s first trailer is reportedly set to be unveiled next week, while the film sets sail…

Has a pirate ever used the word 'featurette'? If not, now's the time – Entertainment Tonight's behind-the-scenes look at the latest entry in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, On Stranger Tides, has taken aboard the good ship YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

The good news is that the plot is sounding considerably less convoluted than the mess that tied Dead Man's Chest and At World's End in knots, being neatly sum-uppable as "Jack Sparrow goes to get his ship back and hunt for the fountain of youth." Whether the all-important humour is up to scratch remains to be seen – for my money, the sequels' biggest problem was the abundance of long, mirth-free stretches – but the action is looked as snazzy as could be expected, including Cap'n Jack surfing carriages on the roads of Olde England and the usual ship-based shenanigans. The clip also shows Penelope Cruz being swarthy, the return of Geoffrey Rush as the immortal Hector Barbossa and the briefest glimpse of Ian McShane as Blackbeard. Better yet, there's not so much as a hint of Orlando Bloom.

The film's first trailer is reportedly set to be unveiled next week, while the film sets sail on May 20th. After the jump, find out why pirates struggle to learn the alphabet!{{page_break}}
