Avengers series will continue after 'Avengers 4'

Infinity more, am I right?

After Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters on April 29, audiences were stunned and satisfied by the experience they got. Yet with next years' sequel set to conclude the Infinity War saga, there's speculation that the Avengers will be no more.

According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, that won't be the case.

During an earnings call on Tuesday, Iger commented that Avengers 4, despite marking the end of an era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, won't be the end of the Avengers.

"We've plotted out Marvel movies that will take us well into the next decade," Iger said. "I'm guessing we will try our hand at what I'll call a new franchise beyond Avengers, but that doesn't necessarily mean you won't see more Avengers down the road."

Information on the next phase of the MCU is sparse. We know about the upcoming sequels to Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy, but little else has been confirmed. With several actors like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. reaching the end of their respective contracts, it seems likely that several key characters will leave the MCU after Avengers 4 hits theaters early next year.

However, Iger's comments indicate that the Avengers will continue with new additions, while saying goodbye to series mainstays like Iron Man and Captain America. And really, who can blame him? Avengers: Infinity War is the king of the box-office right now, grossing over $1.2 billion worldwide after a mere two weeks in theater. That number is sure to get even bigger as Infinity War heads into Chinese theaters this weekend.

So, do not fear. The characters you know and love are here to stay. At least some of them.
