Bill Murray is a lovable curmudgeon in first trailer for ‘St. Vincent’

The first trailer for St. Vincent is everything I want it to be. Bull Murray behaving like a salty misanthrope, Melissa Mccarthy taking on a semi-serious role, Naomi Watts acting as a maternal Russian stripper, and newcomer Jaeden Lieberher being downright adorable. This trailer alone has convinced me that St. Vincent is a winner and should stand as a great vehicle for Murray, who could not be more perfect starring as curmudgeonly war veteran St. Vincent de Van Nuys.

Even the film’s official synopsis is charming:

A young boy whose parents just divorced finds an unlikely friend and mentor in the misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic, war veteran who lives next door.

I am getting a strong About a Boy vibe from St. Vincent, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Stories about hedonists rediscovering their humanity through the innocence of a child sidekick will always be a pleasure to watch, and the performances in this film look downright great.

St. Vincent opens October 24th.
