Bong Joon-Ho's award winning new film Parasite is getting a limited release this October

Can hardly wait

Fresh off the unanimous decision at Cannes to award the film the Palme d'Or Bong Joon-Ho's Parasite is looking to release this October in Los Angeles and California.

Bong Joon-Ho has made a name for himself making entertaining and thought-provoking movies and it looks like Parasite will continue that pattern. The film seems to blend dark comedy with a thrilling edge, traits that many of his films have in common. Something else they have in common is frequent collaborator Song Kang-Ho, who is making his fourth appearance in a Bong Joon-Ho film. The film has had nothing but praise heaped on it since it premiered at Cannes and its release is hotly anticipated.

"Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks give the Kims a way out of their shabby circumstances. But this new ecosystem is fragile, and soon enough greed and class prejudice threaten to upend the Kims’ newfound comfort."

It looks like Parasite will touch on themes similar to some of those covered in Snowpiercer. The balance of an ecosystem and the ramifications of disrupting such a system. This is good news for us since he has the deft hand at the balancing act it requires to pull this off. Unless you were lucky enough to see it at Cannes most of us will have to wait until it premieres this fall.

Parasite will be released in New York and Los Angeles on October 11, 2019
