Box Office Numbers: Tickets to the Gun Show

2 Guns at #1, Pacific Rim does gangbusters in China

Hey, sweet thing. Did you buy your tickets to the gun show? No? Oh... Umm... Well, neither most of the moviegoing public over the weekend.

2 Guns wound up at the top slot with a relatively anemic $27.3 million. The Wolverine took the number two slot with $21.7 million. The other big debut last week was that smurfy-looking piece of smurf called The Smurfs 2. It came in third with $18.2 million, making a total of $27.7 million in its domestic five-day open. This is less than the first Smurfs movie made during its own opening, and it gives me hope that the average filmgoer is not as smurfing stupid as the studios think they are. Then again, international audiences may smurf this up: The Smurfs 2 earned $52.5 million from the rest of the world.

On the note of international numbers, we mentioned last week that Pacific Rim was breaking records in China. How well did it do? In just five days, Pacific Rim has grossed $45.2 million. The Japanese opening numbers will be especially interesting this upcoming weekend. (THR notes that the Chinese box office take may not be going to the studios any time soon due to ongoing tax disputes. You can read more about that issue in this piece from The Independent.)

After the cut, your box office top 10, and the guns you were promised in action. (Personally, I've always been a fan of the line, "Do you know where the animal hospital is? Cuz my pythons are SICK!")
