Brooklyn Nine-Nine renewed for season 8

Yipee kayak other buckets!

Nine-nine! Fans of the best ensemble sitcom on television have cause to rejoice today. Deadline reports that NBC has renewed the beloved series Brooklyn Nine-Nine for an eighth season. This renewal occurs months before season 7 even airs, signifying a huge vote of confidence from the network.

It's been a wild ride for the 99th precinct over the past couple of years. In May of 2018, Fox cancelled the show due to declining ratings. A whole day later, NBC picked up the show for a shortened sixth season. Evidently, ratings improved after the network changed and the series is one of the most-watched comedies on television.

From what I can tell, NBC deeply regretted passing on the show when it was first piloted by Mike Schur. The writer and producer has been behind some of the best television of the last decade (The Good Place, Parks and Recreation). His work clearly resonates with people and Brooklyn Nine-Nine is no exception. I for one am eager to spend more time with these characters.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7 will premiere February 6, 2020.
