Captain Marvel triumphant both nationally and globally

Box office round up

These next two months might soon be looked back on as the moment that Disney took over all cinema and possibly the world. With Avengers: Endgame landing at the end of next month and Captain Marvel pulling in more than $760 million worldwide, and showing no signs of stopping, they're pretty much going to rule the box office for a long while to come. Now is the time to get really concerned that they may be planting subliminal messaging into these movies and turning us all into corporate slaves.

The rest of the box office actually performed really well too, with everything but Captive State doing better than anyone expected. That's especially good news for Wonder Park, which had like no buzz around it and no connection to any property kids knew about. $16 million isn't a huge number but it was over expectations and should mean a decent run for the film, and a win for Paramount's animation department.

Us opens next weekend and should easily top both Captain Marvel and Wonder Park, but given its genre and rating don't be surprised if we see both films sticking around for a bit before Shazam lands in a couple of weeks.
