Cary Fukunaga to start It adaptation next summer

Tim Curry not confirmed to make you afraid of clowns

A new film adaptation of Stephen King's It has been bouncing around for a while now with director Cary Fukunaga attached. It hasn't really gotten off the ground, though, but now, possibly because Fukunaga is so cool nowadays thanks to his stint on True Detective, it's getting rolling this summer.

Shooting starts on the project, which is reportedly going to be broken up into two films and takes a far more faithful approach than the ABC mini-series that we all know and love. Fukunaga is only signed on for the first film, which follows a group of children as they are tormented by an evil being, but will most likely direct the second, which will pick up after the children have become adults, much like the book does.

Finally, Stephen King has given his blessing. Normally I'd say that's a good thing, but this is a man who didn't like Stanley Kubrick's The Shining and instead preferred the far inferior made-for-TV adaptation so him being happy with something is far from a resounding endorsement.
