Clive Barker and Shudder offering $300,000 to an aspiring horror filmmaker as part of contest

Barker will executive produce the film

Clive Barker may never direct a horror movie again, but he wants to help young talent make their first movie. The author, artist, and filmmaker is participating in a contest with the horror streaming service Shudder and Adaptive Studios. It's basically a horror-centric Project Greenlight. The grand prize winner will receive a $300,00 budget to make their original feature film, with Barker mentoring the production and serving as an executive producer.

To enter the contest, visit projectgreenlight.com between February 13th and March 17th. There, filmmakers can upload a brief one-to-three-minute pitch of their original horror movie idea.

Ten semi-finalists will be picked by a panel of judges and through a public vote. Those 10 semi-finalists will be culled down to five finalists, with one finalist selected by the public and four picked by the judges. The five finalists will receive funds to shoot a scene from their horror film. A winner will be picked following a Shudder Labs retreat in June.

This seems like a great opportunity for a young filmmaker to work with one horror's great heroes. Barker's always had a passion for the genre as both art and literature, and maybe he can pass off some of his love to some new blood.
