Daisy Ridley states Rise of Skywalker will address Rey's parentage

Hopefully by saying, 'they're still nothing!'

People online will be shouting about Star Wars: The Last Jedi until long after we're all dead and buried, but it seems the "backlash" to the film is being taken to heart. In a recent talk with USA Today, Daisy Ridley (known for playing Rey in the current Star Wars trilogy) dropped a hint that the upcoming Rise of Skywalker film would give us a definitive answer for her character's parentage.

When questioned about how the film would explore her character's past -- with specific regards to lineage --, Ridley said, "(Director J.J. Abrams) did say the question is answered. So at the end of the film, you do know what the dealio is." That doesn't outright confirm that any specific story decisions from the previous film will be reversed, but I have sinking feeling that is going to be the case.

The verdict is still out on episode nine, but even just the title of the film fills me with dread. After hearing so many people complain that Star Wars has somehow become corrupted (despite originally being envisioned as a multi-media franchise ripe for toy sales), seeing "The Rise of Skywalker" appear during the teaser trailer almost read like an apology to me. It seems that Disney is doing its best to quell the vocal minority that hated The Last Jedi instead of trying to create a story that challenges people's expectations. Maybe that comes with the territory of controlling a multi-billion dollar series, but I'm nearly sick of hearing about this half-baked controversy.

So I swear, if the dealio that Ridley is talking about comes in the form of some "shock" twist that Rey really is a Skywalker, then you can count me among the many that are dissatisfied with Disney's handling of this brand.
