Darkseid will appear in the Snyder Cut of Justice League along with much more content

The saga comes to an end

I guess this story didn't end.

Over two and a half years after Justice League released to theaters with a resounding "meh," Zack Snyder's original vision for the film will finally be completed. It's a saga that has it all. Heartbreak, disappointment, optimism, and determination have all brought us to this moment in time where Zack Snyder's original version of the film will finally be completed and see the light of day. While we reported earlier about the cut's confirmed existence, we now know some extra details regarding the project's future and some key elements within.

First and foremost, this will be Snyder's original vision for the film. While the theatrical cut of the movie had to enlist Joss Whedon to complete filming and cut the film to be under two hours, Snyder implies that there will be no restrictions with this release. When discussing how Warner Bros. supported his return to the movie, he stated, "This return to that pedigree [as the filmmaker's studio] and to let my singular vision of my movie be realized, in this format, in this length, is unprecedented and a brave move."

Snyder went on to say that he reached out to all of the original cast members to let them know that he was going to complete his cut of the film and that he would like their help in post-production. New dialogue would need to be recorded for the incomplete scenes that were left on the cutting room floor, and the special effects would of course need to be finalized. Fortunately for Snyder, most of the major special effects studio are in need of work, so now there's actually time to dedicate to the project. Snyder is going so far as to reassemble anyone who was involved in the original release in order to complete this version of the film. While no one is confirming exactly how much will be required to complete the Snyder Cut, it's rumored to be in the ballpark of $20-30 million.

Snyder describes this version of the movie as being "an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie." What those changes may be aren't entirely known except that Darkseid, the premiere villain that Justice League was building towards, will be present in the film in some capacity. The actual format of the Snyder Cut hasn't been specified either. It's possible that it could release as one ultra long, four hour long film, or it could be released as several smaller "episodes" with cliffhangers to break the movie into more digestible chunks. Since it will be debuting on HBO Max, making the movie more binge friendly may be a smart movie for the studio.

Honestly, I can't believe I'm writing this article. I never in my wildest dreams thought the Snyder Cut was actually going to see the light of day. This is a huge moment for the fans that were pleading for an official version of the movie for years, but now it's all on the table. The original movie wasn't good, but will Snyder's definitive version be better? Will all of that build-up be worth it in the end, or was it all a massive waste of time. It'll be a while until we find out, but it's all or nothing now for Snyder.

The Snyder Cut of Justice League will release on HBO Max in 2021.
