Deadpool 2 producers get fined over the death of stuntwoman Joi Harris

0

Fine amounts to $289,562

Following an investigation by WorkSafeBC (the Canadian equivalent of OSHA), the producers of Deadpool 2 have been fined $289,562 for the death of stuntwoman Joi Harris on the set of the film. Harris was killed in a motorcycle crash during the filming of a stunt in August 2017. Her first stunt for a feature production, she was ejected from the motorcycle and crashed through a plate-glass window. Production was halted immediately following the incident.

TCF Vancouver Productions LTD (the company responsible for Deadpool 2's filming) was found to be in violation of a number requirements for a safe workplace. These include things like "Failure to ensure the health and safety of the stunt performer" and "Instructing the stunt performer not to wear safety headgear."

A representative for WorkSafeBC said in a statement, "The primary purpose of an administrative penalty is to motivate the employer receiving the penalty - and other employers - to comply with occupational health and safety requirements and to keep their workplaces safe." Hopefully, this fine will lead to other production companies taking the proper safety measures in the future.
