Disney fears that Jojo Rabbit may be a bit too edgy for its brand

I did Nazi that

According to a new report from Variety, the content of director Taika Waititi's upcoming satire Jojo Rabbit is making some Disney executives sweat. For those unaware, the film is a skewering of Nazi Germany with Waititi even portraying the Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler, himself. It's been billed as an "anti-hate satire," but the subtlety of the joke may be lost on some.

As Variety reports, "Halfway through one recent viewing one executive grew audibly uncomfortable, worrying aloud that the material would alienate Disney fans." Considering Disney has become known for its animated classics, Marvel films, and mostly child-friendly cartoons, that is somewhat understandable. Still, Waititi and Disney have a great working relationship after the success of Thor: Ragnarok and the man will even be returning to direct the fourth entry, Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thankfully, the film hasn't been delayed or put on ice. With Waititi being a respected name and the film already generating award buzz, Disney is likely going to suffer what storm may come in the hopes of Jojo Rabbit winning some Oscars. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if some of the higher-ups do try to put the kibosh on it.
