Disney’s Jungle Cruise looks like a decent popcorn flick

Disney has just unveiled a new trailer for Jungle Cruise, a film adaptation of the “popular” ride from Walt Disney World. Combining elements from the attraction with a star-studded cast, I’m actually quite surprised at the result. This doesn’t look groundbreaking or anything, but it seems like it might be a solid popcorn flick. I’m mainly happy that Disney has incorporated actual elements from the silly ride instead of trying to rework this into some crazy tale.

What I’ve felt for a long time is that Disney should try to create origin stories for its various attractions. While Pirates of the Carribean ended up becoming an immensely successful series, even the first movie lacked ties to its namesake. Since Disney has a penchant for theming in its parks, I don’t see why it couldn’t adapt all of that lore into films that create a mythos around the ride. Wouldn’t it be fun to partake of the Jungle Cruise knowing it’s based on some ancient myth, for example?

Whatever the case, I’m at least not put off by this trailer. Jungle Cruise looks fun enough.
