Doctor Who won't return for a full series until 2020

Where's a TARDIS when you need one?

Broadcast dates in the age of apparent "prestige" television are never as consistent as it used to be. Enter the BBC's Doctor Who, which just wrapped up series/season 11. While Whovians (great fanbase name, by the way) can rest easy knowing that Jodie Whittaker won't be leaving right away, she won't have her second bout as the Doctor until early 2020.

According to a press release by the BBC, showrunner Chris Chibnall and companion actors Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole are due to return as well. I haven't seen the finale of series 11 yet, so I guess none of them freaking die or leave during it. This newest iteration already had so many changes, so it's probably good to have some stability.

Reactions to the latest season seem to be a bit mixed, as I talked about in a previous news piece. While I'm about lukewarm towards the quality of writing as well, I don't think it's really possible for any season of modern Doctor Who to go off without a hitch. Remember Tennant's first season? There were some hated episodes in that batch, even though retrospectively everyone loves that iteration of the show. Ultimately, a season of Doctor Who is like a sketch comedy show—people will pick out the best pieces from it, but totally forget that there was a lot of bad shit in between.

The only Doctor Who we can expect on television is a New Year's Day special, a first for the modern show.
