Downton Abbey dominates as Rambo: Last Blood bleeds

Box office round up

September has always been a fairly uneventful time of year for a reason. It's right smack dab in between the end of the summer movie season and right before the Oscar hopefuls come out, so there's not really much to talk about. We're just in a holding pattern and this year is no different.

Downton Abbey had fairly little competition in securing the number one spot this past weekend, opening at a respectable $31,000,000. That isn't all that surprising given the popularity of the series, though I admit that I've never once seen an episode of the show. However, I know the series has a devout fanbase and it's clear that they showed up to pay their respects.

As for the other two new releases, both Ad Astra and Rambo: Last Blood debuted at around $19 million each, though of the two Ad Astra made $200,000 more for the number two slot. While critics have been fairly positive to Ad Astra, nobody's coming to defend Last Blood and its tired excuse to get Stallone to play Rambo one last time. Most of the other releases are just summer holdovers leading to a weekend without any major shifts or upsets. Look, the box office is probably gonna be stagnant until Joker resuscitates it in two weeks. Until then, hope you're ready for another weekend of nothing important releasing unless you're one of the two people that really want to see Abominable
