Drive Angry director to treat us with Trick this October

If there’s one thing I need everyone to know it’s that I love Drive Angry. It’s chaotic, wild, ridiculous midnight movie gold, and I cherish it dearly. This isn’t all due to Nicolas Cage’s performance, either, which was (dare I say) a bit wooden. Its writing and shooting are both solid homages to the 70’s grindhouse not at all afraid to go well over the top. It’s wonderful.

That same duo of director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer are now working together to bring forward Lussier’s first effort since Drive Angry crashed through theaters in 2011. The feature, titled Trick looks a bit closer to Lussier and Farmer’s past collaboration on the My Bloody Valentine remake, which still makes it something to keep an eye on.

Trick will see Omar Epps as a detective tracking down a masked madman who slashes through a small town every Halloween. This sounds like some pretty straightforward horror stuff, but hopefully the team has created a film with enough energy and originality to turn it into something special.

Trick is being released by RLJE and will hit theaters and VOD on October 18, 2019.
