Escape Room 2 gets shoved to end of December

It's almost like they don't believe in it or something

Escape Room was not a very good movie and doesn't deserve to be a franchise. It was a banal and by-the-numbers slog of predictable peril that didn't even give us the basic escape room fun of trying to solve the puzzle with the characters. All puzzles were connected to lackluster backstories, and it ended on a cliffhanger that promised this time the survivors would get even. In a just world, Escape Room would be left dangling there for eternity.

The world is obviously not just, so not only are we getting an Escape Room 2, but it's getting pushed back into a much less competitive release. Originally slated for August 14, the sequel will now escape viewers' scorn until December 30, 2020.

If it had kept its summer date, Escape Room 2 would have had to face off against not only a Disney flick, The One and Only Ivan but also James Wan's latest horror film, Malignant. That's competition Sony's decided Escape Room could simply not survive against.

But the dead end of December going into January when not much of interest is coming out, because people are too busy catching up on all the films they missed? Yeah, it should do just fine.
