First images of Pet Sematary remake will make you afraid of your cat

Just don't build things on ancient Indian burial grounds

After It was such a smash hit everyone is scrambling on board the Stephen King adaptation train, and the next one to land is long-in-gestation new adaptation of Pet Semetary, which was already fantastically and creepily done back in 1989. The original movie holds a special spot in my heart as it was one of the first R-rated horror films I ever saw, so with rose-tinted glasses on I can't help but look at the first images from the remake and... actually this looks pretty good.

You can't tell much from stills of people, but they definitely got a creepy as hell cat to terrorize us all. In an overly-long piece EW reveals a whole slew of in-depth details you probably care nothing about, but it does seem like the film will play closer to King's original novel than the first film did. There's a lot of talk about making Zelda really scary, and how the movie is about more than just horror, but also deep thoughts about life and death. Sure, I suppose that's true, but really it's about making every pet you see a possible mortal enemy.

Pet Semetary will release on April 5, 2019.
