First trailer for Bridge of Spies

Spielberg, the Coens and Hanks

Bridge of Spies is directed by Steven Spielberg, written by Joel and Ethan Coen (and Matt Charman) and it stars Tom Hanks. Names most everyone knows and respects to a certain degree, which means it is automatically positioned to succeed in one way or another.

It has become sport to dislike Spielberg in recent years, and albeit I'm not a huge fan of the man, I always find myself excited for his next movies. Sadly, this is not the case with Bridge of Spies, having seen the trailer.

Sure, it looks exciting as a spy-thriller, and important as a character study about morality and choice, but it also looks indescribably conventional in my eyes. Maybe I've turned a cynic post-Lincoln - which I really didn't like - but I think Spielberg has a lot more to offer than is displayed here.
