First trailer for next months Black Metal biopic Lords of Chaos releases

A rare Culkin appears

We all had a metal phase, don't try to deny it. While most of my friends were into thrash and death metal, my late teenage rebellious years drove me towards black metal, more specifically symphonic black metal. Something about the classical music I used to listen to as a kid mixing with overly distorted guitars and apocalyptic lyrics was poetically dark for the adolescent Marzano. But like all things we did as a teen, I now look back on my brief time as a black metal head as somewhat embarrassing, not because I didn't like the music but because I didn't realize there was a whole culture surrounding that genre of metal, and not all of it is good.

That's where Jonas Åkerlund's new thriller-biopic Lords of Chaos comes in. Taking place in the early days of the Norwegian black metal scene, Lord of Chaos will tell the story of how a band named Mayhem sparked a revolution of sound and counter culture. The story around the band Mayhem is wrought with tragedy and rebellion and I'm interested to see how far they take the movie. From a few images in the trailer alone though I think it's going to be a grisly affair not for the weak of heart.

Directed by famed music video director Jonas Åkerlund, Lords of Chaos stars Rory Culkin, Emory Cohen, Jack Kilmer, and Sky Ferreira. It will receive a limited release on February 8th of this year with a video on demand release coming on February 22nd.
