Flixist Awards 2012: Best Action

0

Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

2012 had all kinds of punching, kicking, shooting, killing, murdering, and bleeding, all in stylish flair. In the past year alone, we had the most successful super hero film with Marvel's The Avengers, Skyfall commemorated the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, a reboot of a comic book adaptation went underrated with Dredd (which also co-starred my boo, Olivia Thirlby), Quentin Tarantino added another great film to his canon with Django Unchained, and Indonesia graced us with the remarkable The Raid: Redemption.

Which film had the most power behind its punch?

Really, was there really any other film that could have beaten The Raid: Redemption in the action department? The choreography in the film was mind blowing, with so much extension behind every kick, and the amount of blocks and counters alone helped "legitimize" the fight scenes. Seriously, each fight scene with Mad Dog is ridiculously entertaining and captivating. Don't believe me? Just watch. [Read the full review here.]

The Raid: Redemption had some tough competition, but its choreography was enough to easily overtake the Golden Pterodactyl. With a show of hands, tell me who didn't consider taking up pencak silat after watching this film? Yeah, that's what I thought. Dredd might have had Olivia Thirlby and Karl Urban's chin, The Avengers might have had superheroes and aliens, Skyfall might have had James Bond and martinis Heinekens, and Django Unchained might have had racist slave owners, but The Raid: Redemption had so much more badassness.
