Greta trailer reminds us that lonely old women are monsters

Moral of the story: Never return someone's bag

One time I found this crumpled black-and-white photo of a dude on the sidewalk, and this old lady started waving at me. She called out that the photo was of her dead husband and it was the most precious thing in the world to her. She wanted me to walk across the street and hand it to her, putting me well within stabbing distance. I was no fool. I threw that picture in the closest gutter and dashed away at full speed while screaming and shoving people into the street. Thanks to my quick thinking, I'm still alive to this day.

As seen in the above trailer for Greta old women who lose things are conniving monsters waiting to trap you in a deadly game in which they drug you, make you dress like them, and kill at least one person. When you get that old, when you have nothing left which the world can take away from you, that's when you're at your most dangerous.

In classic thriller style, the trailer shows a mix of genuine tension and some absurd nonsense. A cabinet full of handbags elicits more a chuckle than a gasp, but that restaurant shouting match is only second to the one in 1981's Possession. Either way, it looks to be a lurid and fun enough way to spend an hour-and-a-half.

Greta stars Chloë Grace Moretz and Isabelle Huppert and is due to hit theaters in March of 2019.
