Happy Death Day 2U really wants you to know about the first movie

Happy Death Day 2U Turbo: HD Remix

2017's Happy Death Day had a concept so simple that I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. It used Groundhog Day style time loops to create something that was part horror movie, part comedy, and part murder mystery. The trailer for next years sequel has dropped, and it really wants to make sure you're caught up.

The trailer starts with a recap of the first movie. This includes the identity of the first movie's baby masked killer. That sort of disregard for spoiling its own work seems weird at first, but it starts to make a lot of sense.

Happy Death Day 2U isn't another story following the first one. It's the same story with a twist. Not only is Tree, played by Jessica Rothe, repeating the same day over and over again, but it is literally the same day from the first movie. However, this time events are shuffled around and changed. Things seem to escalate much quicker and further than they ever did the first time around.

That's a fun way to play around with what fans were expecting, but considering how little I hear people talk about that movie, the recap is probably for the best. I'm sure plenty of people would be very confused without it.

Happy Death Day 2U will be releasing on Valentines Day of next year.
