Happy Death Day is getting a sequel

More blood please

Happy Death Day was a film rife with potential, and devoid of reaching that potential. Thanks to a PG-13 rating, and a tepid screenplay, the fantastic concept didn't have the blood and gore it needed to really succeed. Instead it functioned well enough, but not as well as it could have. That's why I instantly wanted a sequel that could get it right, and now that's happening.

This was pretty inevitable since the original performed really well at the box office so I don't think anyone is surprised. We'll be getting both Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard back in action, while Christopher Landon direct. The movie will pick up right where the last one ended (like to the second), and answer some big questions, like why the time loop was even happening in the first place. That was actually one of my main issues with the film, so if this was planned out I might like the original even more after seeing this one.

On the other hand, I was kind of hoping for a bit more of an anthology horror approach where loop was carried out on different people facing different challenges each time. That's not happening, but I can still hope that this one has an R rating, right? Chances are pretty slim there too, as Blumhouse makes its bank on cheapo PG-13 horror films.

No release date is set yet.
