Harpoon trailer sticks its tongue firmly in its shredded, bloody cheek

Jury's out on whether or not it's better than Titanic

One of my favorite things about trailer and box quotes for movies is seeing their sources. Sometimes, like on the cover of The Room, the quote will be attributed to no one and nowhere. Other times, you'll get the usual quotes from reviewers who just seem to love everything that touches their eyes, or you'll get deeper cuts from stupid sites you've never heard of like Flixist. This trailer for horror-comedy Harpoon gives you a little bit of both!

In a decidedly cheeky movie, the opening of the trailer is a commentary on how people don't normally source-check pull quotes. True enough, but if you decide whether or not to watch a movie based on a quote like "action sequences are good," then you deserve what you get. It's a cute move, but I do wonder if Harpoon benefited from it when the amount of time spent focusing on words on the screen definitely outweighs how much of the movie we actually get to see.

What we do get to see however looks like a bloody and tense bit of boat horror, and honestly I can't remember the time I saw a thriller about folks lost at sea. Summer is upon us, so now would be the time to watch people gurgle and die in some crisp green waves.

Unfortunately Harpoon will impale international audiences on May 20 at Cannes, but the waters are still murky on when the rest of us will be invited in for a swim.
